Player came to us "on loan" as a temporary dog for Katie to show when
her dog "Elf" wasn't able to go out for a while. A mere couple
of weeks after he arrived, Katie and Player made their ring debut at
the Supported Entry in Montgomery, AL where they went Best of
Opposite Sex over lots of adults and even some Specials their very
first trip around the ring together. |

Katie and Player have continued their winning ways together, taking
many Best of Breed wins at most of the all-breed shows where they
have competed. (Beating Mom who is an experienced handler no
less!) |

Though Katie didn't place in the group, she and
Player were finally allowed to make their first group ring
appearance together at the Brandon Kennel Club and Mississippi State
Kennel Club shows in December, 2007. There wasn't a dry
eye in the house and the applause was astounding. Katie
handled herself and Player well. To say that Mom is quite
pleased with her efforts would be an understatement! Of course
the day was rather tiring for her, as you can tell from the photo! |

From shortly after their first show, we knew that
Player was a special dog. When Katie fell in the ring, Player
simply stopped to see if she was okay, then the two of them just dusted
off and kept right on going together like nothing happened. He
absolutely loves showing for her and I couldn't swear to it, but I think
he's proud to be in the ring with her. He really begins to
turn on and strut when he hears all the applause. Though
Player was supposed go back to his former life, the longer he was here, the more
the two of them simply blossomed together. We really felt like
finding another dog out there so absolutely perfect for Katie to show as
a Special would be difficult if not impossible. Thankfully,
Player became a permanent house dog and part of our
family in January, 2008. Though Elfie has not lost her place as
"Katie's Dog!!" Player has managed to join Elf's esteemed ranks by
claiming co-ownership of Katie with her. Maria Harrison gave Player a good
start on his obedience training before he came to us having trained and
handled him to his Rally Novice (RN) title and putting his CGC on him.
Now we will work to finish
some of the training and add to his titles in both obedience and field
while Katie continues to show him as a Special in the breed ring.
Don't worry though! Even with his busy schedule, he still gets
plenty of time on the sofa or on my side of the bed when Rick is
watching TV and sharing snacks with him! (Why do they always leave
crumbs on MY side of the bed?!) Be looking for lots of
updates as Player's journey with Katie continues to unfold.
NEWSFLASH!! Katie and Player competed in
their first UKC shows, bringing home 3 Reserve Best in Show wins and 2
Gun Dog Group 1st's out of 6 shows to finish Player's UKC Championship!
